A compassionate individual, Monique positively impacts her community as a role model and leader.
Annually, for over 15 years the Mo'Hair Foundation and Monique’s Techniques continues to sponsor
Thanksgiving Day dinner for homeless, elderly and the less fortunate in the Hudson County area by
providing four course meals. The annual Thanksgiving event expands each year and has become a
locally recognized event where politicians and community leaders contribute and volunteer for this
laudatory initiative.

Mrs. Andrews’ achievements as a professional hairstylist and entrepreneur have garnered
accolades from civic leaders, organizations, and the community alike. Her accomplishments include:
The Madam C. J. Walker’s Entrepreneur Award; NAACP Community Service Honoree; Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority Inc. Woman of the Year Award; Governor Jefferson award; Boys and Girls from Hudson County
and several more.  Always in demand, Monique’s presence inspires harmony and goodwill in all
sectors of the hair industry, as well as the neighboring communities. Monique Smith-Andrews is
the youngest daughter of Bennie and (the late) Josephine Smith. She has six siblings. Currently, she
shares her life with her husband, Thurston, and their beautiful children in northern New Jersey.

Monique Smith-Andrews is the founder of Monique’s Techniques, a full service salon and the Mohair Foundation, a nonprofit charity, servicing
individuals suffering from hair loss as a result of various medical
conditions such as Cancer, Alopecia and Lupus. Monique created this organization as her mother battled cancer. It was difficult for Monique to see her mother struggle with the effects of hair loss with no viable options. So, she began researching alternatives to wigs and began her journey into the non-surgical hair replacement industry.

A native of Bayonne, New Jersey, she began her career over 30 years ago. Graduating from Natural Motion Beauty School in 1983, she honed her skills and became a highly sought after master stylist and makeup artist.
In 1988, Monique’s Techniques Salon was opened.  Monique managed entrepreneurship and the growing demands of a diverse range of clientele. Monique provided hair styling and hair care treatments for celebrity, sports and political clients throughout her journey.

The mission of the Mo’ Hair Foundation is to provide children and adults suffering from hair loss caused by various medical conditions with a non-surgical hair replacement. These services will be provided, by sponsoring fundraisers to generate funds, in order to render the hair consultation and non-surgical hair replacement services for free. Each hair replacement will serve as a vessel in revitalizing the individual’s life and help to develop and rebuild their self-esteem. In addition to creating and maintaining a positive attitude in the midst of their medical crisis.
